The costs of holding trials can be more than many small groups can afford. As the trainer or club director, you still want a system that allows you and your members to get a clear, accurate assessment of each dog's training progress. Although we would all like a trophy or ribbon to display, the bottom line on dog trials is that they are an invaluable tool to show each handler where they have progressed and where they need more work in their training program. A good trial system needs qualified judges using a written standard that all members can read and understand. A well written standard gives the competitors the picture they are trying to present in competition, and also gives them confidence in the integrity of the standards they are being judged by. As well as a written judging standard, an effective trial needs scenarios that have a definite purpose and that all dogs are capable of performing. After all if the dog cannot reasonably be expected to complete the exercise, how can it ever be evaluated? And isn't that the real purpose of a trial? Much more than other dog sports, a Protection dog trial should contain exercises that indicate the teamwork between handler and dog as well as the dog's man stopping abilities. Where most breed specific bite sports stop the judging when the dog bites, a Protection Trial Judge should just be getting started when the dog engages. Our proven scenarios allow the contestant to showcase their dogs fighting skills based on actual apprehensions and street experience. No matter how good the judges and scenarios, the trial is all for nothing if your members don't have a written clear record of that performance. Without a detailed, written record for each competitor, there is no way they can use the trial to learn how to improve their training program. The unique K9 PRO SPORTS score sheet is the most comprehensive evaluation tool in the dog world today. Each sheet not only has a point value assigned to each and every exercise, but each exercise is broken down with an assigned point value. The unique K9 PRO SPORTS symbol shorthand system allows a judge to not only judge something like the bite, but also show the competitor, in writing that the bite was shallow, or that the 'out' was slow. There is no more accurate scoring sheet and evaluation tool in the dog world today. The Protection Trial packet is available to K9 PRO SPORTS member clubs only, and contains a complete judges manual, allowing you or any club member you wish to designate as the trial judge, to learn all the mechanics and intricacies of dog show judging. Scenarios with all the suggestions, distances, measurements needed to set up and carry out your trial. And all this is based on practical application of Protection dogs. You also receive scoresheets, recording sheets, call sheets... all the paperwork for a well run trial. In addition you will receive a business plan that details what your club can do to turn your trial into a money maker. Everything from how to run a concession stand to getting free advertising and supportive sponsors is contained in the business section of this packet. So, if you are thinking of hosting your own Protection trial, now may be the time.
