The arguement about gentics and training, and which does the most may never be settled in many minds, and has been settled in many others, but I thought of another way to explain that may or may not help some one, try this one out.

Genetics give all dogs their maximum potential. Training gives each dog their actual abilities.

Think of food. When pup is born the maximum size it can reach is already genetically determined. their is no way to increase this potential, it is genetically engineered, period.

What a human can do is influence the dogs ability to reach that potential. Even though this is a biological function if you starve the pup, or otherwise limit nutrition, the dog may not reach its' full size.

You will never know how large a dog will grow until it is grown, AND raised with a good diet and lots of good rest.

A dog with good breeding (genetics) will never reach it's full working potential until it is trained with good training techniques. The maximum potential is set, only the human influence can see that it is reached.

So the only thing a human can do, with a good dog, is fail to get it to its' max potential.
